Season 2001-2002

Not the best season in Woodies footballing history! At the end of the previous season Fran had had to stand down from managing the team due to ill health, and with the church building being redeveloped, there was no influx of new students to replace people who had moved on at the end of the previous season. For four of the games the team failed to raise the normal complement of 11 players

Highlight of the year was the victory over Interchurches in January (the only team ever to have beaten Interchurches in the Cardiff Christian Mini League) although they took revenge by completely whopping us on the return fixture. There were a number of other close victories.

In the end the season ended up in a rather unsatisfactory manner with various fixtures remaining unplayed. From memory, Interchurches conceded the league title to Ponty CU, partly on the basis that they had managed to complete their fixtures - although some of us felt that morally the top place should be shared between Ponty CU and Interchurches.

Anyway at the end of the season, no one was willing to continue running the team, and in any case Cardiff Christian Mini League folded since no one was willing to run the league either!

Some people thought it was all over for the Woodies Football Team, but the team reformed in Autumn 2004 following the influx of new batches of students into the church.....
